On Site in Kolkata

Piercy&Company's MIPIM AR Future Projects award winning project SymHomes in Restello, Kolkata is on site with work progressing quickly. The super structure has been installed with sub-structure and floor plates nearing completion.

The apartment scheme is pioneering for its use of steel in an Indian residential context and features contemporary living spaces enveloped by a permeable and responsive outer skin of opening steel panels. The outer perforated panels will help to cool the building by maximising airflow and shading whilst also providing a screen during torrential rains. This environmental buffer zone aims to condition the climate naturally, minimizing the use of air-conditioning units.

The project is the outcome of a Living Steel competition aimed at promoting sustainable steel housing in Kolkata.

Work is expected to complete on site in the autumn of 2013.
