2 Gee Street
Chait Investment Corporation
Overview
Drawing on the Clerkenwell vernacular, the crittal glazed building provides a ground floor reception and retail plus six floors of office space on a former car park site. The scheme connects into the Bunhill Energy Network and includes over 2,000 ft2 of dedicated affordable Small and Medium Sized Enterprise space.
The Gee Street elevation is a finely gridded glazed wall, inspired by the crittal glass of local warehouse buildings and the factory glazing of the International Style. A subtle curved corner draws pedestrians into a landscaped courtyard formed between the gable end wall of Harella House and the new building.
Piercy&Company has also been engaged on the refurbishment of the building next door - Harella House, currently an office building, but originally built in the 1930’s as a warehouse and factory. The consented scheme at 2 Gee Street will connect through to Harella House via a shared circulation stair. The stair is recessed back from the street to define an entrance courtyard and forms a lightweight connection between the solid existing building and the fine-grained facade of 2 Gee Street.
